The three Yadgarteers (Lord Clive, Steve and Hector) headed in to the deep south of Glasgow to Craig and Yvonne’s. This building may not be their place of residence but Hector is always amused that such a building can lie in this state in such a prestigious area of the city.
Arriving at the Pyraser House, there was no Bier today! Yet. There was a Robin. Soon there was also Jonathan waiting patiently with the tap.
A taxi with Dr Stan, Howard and Tracey arrived with 30l of Pyraser Landbier. With the arrival of Peter we were the full ‘Batman party’.
Last year the Pyraser did not wish to accept the tap. This year the tapping was simple but the Bier refused to flow. It is a long wait for eleven people to have pints when the Bier dribbles out of the tap.
This was a splendid afternoon in the September sunshine.
When Bernard arrived and drank only the house bottled Bier (Edlestoff) it was even better. Dr Stan had a very relaxed afternoon.
At 17.00 Yvonne served her special Chilli with a baby pot on the side for the man who claims to be able to eat the Vindaloo of Nurnberg. Craig couldn’t handle it.
It was time to leave. Robin went.
Eleven people, 30l of Bier, it does not last forever. Craig became the even more perfect host by offering us Yvonne’s stash of Edelstoff. Craig and Yvonne saw us off the premises. Perhaps they were simply checking that we were not disappearing with the silver cutlery or a painting of a locomotive. Whatever, the door slammed closed leaving our hosts stranded outside their home. Bye!
There was a quick bus ride to the Allison Arms on Pollokshaws Rd for a quick Bier. Marg joined the happy group, Steve went a hunting in the West End. Jonathan disappeared to Waxy O’Connor’s. Well somebody has to go there, allegedly.
Howard and Tracey took the bus, Marg drove a by now very relaxed Dr Stan, Lord Clive and Hector to the West End.
St Louis Blues
The St Louis has recently opened at the far end of Partick, Thornwood. That Steve knows Juliet one of the owners is what brought it to our attention. There is Williams Bros Bier on draught permanently, a big attraction. The Joker is wild! However it was the Ceilidh Lager that was available this evening. Juliet and Steve were assembled as was a table for the remaining six survivors.
This a thoroughly pleasant venue. The place has a becoming atmosphere and the staff are attentive. The fact that we always drink German Bier at The Ally on a Saturday afternoon (when not away at more exotic locations) means that the Ales of The Bon accord afterwards do not have much of an appeal. That St Louis is selling the keg versions of the Williams Bros Biers means that they are being served cold! I hear my fellow CAMRA members crying however, it works for us.
