The Lost Weekend...Day 3

Sunday, 27 September

Jonathan was nowhere to be seen. He had the Pyraser Landbier and Mühlen Kölsch to drive back to blighty. Hector and Robin were on the 10.05 train to Darmstadt with a connection to Mainz and then down the Rhein Gorge to Koblenz. There was confusion at Koblenz. Our connecting Inter-City train to Bullay was late, the RE was only going as far as Bullay, we hoped. It was a bus that took us up the Mosel to Traben-Trarbach where shockaroonay...there was another wine fest on! Trarbach’s Federweinfest!
Frank had left us a note to say he would be back after 16.00 so we went for a half litre of Reissdorf Kölsch at the Schlossbergschänke (Rolf’s, as was). After checking in to Room 1 at the Altstadt Cafe, Robin had the taste of a mini-Wolf before a trip to the Station Bar. Mein host was in much better nick that the previous weekend and took me on...yes in a recent Champions League match, Glasgow Rangers FC had drawn away to his precious team: Stuttgart!
Decent Franziskaner was consumed before we headed to the bridge, the Brücken-Schenke which was too busy so we had dinner at the newly opened Hungarian restaurant at the far end of Brückenstrasse. This place had been easily the worst bar in T-T until relatively recently. At New Year we all trooped in just to remind ourselves as to how bad it was. Now it is decidedly more gemutlich, but the portions could have been larger. All very good for the diet.
Hammy (Pilstube)was as welcoming as ever and was surprised when Hector took (Gaffel) Kolsch instead of his usual Altbier. Time was getting on and so we retired to see Frank. Robin was doing very well, given the amount of sleep he had had over the last two days this was not surprising. We’ll have another, and then another. It was a Sunday after all; the foreign branch of the Bad Boys Club was in a fanciful mood. It was 02.00 before Robin agreed it was time to go upstairs.
